MEET HEIDI

My husband, Taylor and I are the parents of four children who range in age from 10 to 18. We have lived in South Rancho Cordova for 11 years, with our children attending schools within Elk Grove Unified during that time. Our children are currently attending schools within the district at the elementary, middle school, and high school level. I have been actively involved in my children’s education, through volunteering and advocacy at their schools and at the district level.

I grew up in Northern Idaho in a small farming community. I attended Boise State University, where I studied Nursing. I am a Registered Nurse, which has given me the opportunity to work with a wide variety of patient populations. Within my profession, I have specifically worked with youth, in multiple capacities. I have volunteered as the Camp Nurse for my church’s youth camp for several summers. I have also worked in Adolescent Behavioral Health.

I have been involved with advocacy within my children’s schools and at the district level for several years. I am currently serving on the Robert J. McGarvey School Site Council, where I have learned about the Local Control and Accountability Plan, the proposed expenditures, and other important data regarding the student population. I was also selected to serve as the parent representative from Katherine L. Albiani Middle School for the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Committee. Additionally, I was appointed to be a representative for the district’s Comprehensive Sexual Health Advisory Committee.

I enjoy hiking with my family, and any physical challenge. Last year, I hiked Pyramid Peak with my daughter, and I have completed a half marathon and a Spartan Race. I enjoy taking beach vacations with my family. I love to support my kids in their various sporting events and activities. Most Saturdays, you will find me at a soccer game, football clinic, or a track meet supporting my kids.

As a parent, I am keenly aware of both the successes and shortcomings of the district. Parents deserve to have a voice about important topics that concern them with their child’s education, schools, and safety. They also deserve transparency regarding curriculum and fiscal responsibility with taxpayer dollars. As a trustee, I will work collaboratively with all stakeholders regarding important issues that need to be addressed, and I am willing to ask the tough questions to make necessary changes.
